For this episode, I’m going to focus on the family aspect and how marrying into a family might be like a foreigner not understanding the language of his new country.
Lily visits Marshall’s parents and they’re pretty much saying how she should be and what should happen when they marry. She’s in a strange situation because she doesn’t want to be a certain way to please his parents. Now, my first Thanksgiving experience with someone who wasn’t a friend, was a very enjoyable experience, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous going into it, with all the stories I had heard about everyone in the family. It was a big gathering, in a big house, with lots of food. It was actually one of my favorite events during that relationship, I met a lot of the family and everyone was very cool and helped me feel as ease with all the fuss going on over the day. As always, I started off awkward and not knowing what to do or what to say to anyone, so I kind of just hung back and played eye candy on the ex’s arm. Eventually everyone opened up to me and I opened up to them and I enjoyed the day there. It was far different than what was experienced in the show. There were no mayonnaise salads or basicekball.
