Adults Only

So, this whole Take2 and Manhunt2 debacle is getting out of hand. Why are we as a society so uptight about a video game? It’s been proven time and again that video games have no link to violence. Take2 went out on a limb and just developed a violent game. How is Hollywood and Eli Roth not responsible for putting out softcore snuff movies with the Hostel and etc series or even the whole Saw series. I guess it’s fine if someone else is doing the killing, but if little Johnny were to get his hands on the game, it’d be the game makers fault and not the parents for leaving the game where little Johnny could access it and play it. Sony and Nintendo both say they will not allow Adults Only games on their systems. Why? The gaming community wants AO games, well, maybe I can’t speak for all, but it would be nice to have a game that is in that category in these next gen systems. It’s amazing we can destroy aliens and that be considered Mature, well because their not humans and there’s no red blood flying everywhere.

I’d like to see more violent games. Why you might ask? Because they’re fun. Not because some retard is going to go and kill people because of a game. That person probably would’ve done it if he didn’t have the game anyway. Most of those people are predisposed to violence to begin with, games have just become the easy scapegoat to place the blame on. I’m calling out parents on this one. Your child has problems, get them help, don’t ignore the problem hoping it’ll fix itself on it’s own. Video games are not the reason your kid went psycho, they just happened to be there for you to play them. There are millions of gamers that play violent games, watch violent movies and watch the news that haven’t killed anyone, but it’s always the needle in the haystack that gets the attention and gets us in trouble. A small percentage causes everyone’s panties to bunch up and assholes to clench when something bad happens.

Parents and the media are making things worse for everyone. I would have bought a Wii just to play Manhunt 2. Because it’d be like playing Hitman, but actually be able to pull off all the moves for yourself. Virtual interaction is here, and it’s taken it’s sweet fucking time. I’m ready to embrace new technology, but you have to have games that take advantage of the new tech. This is a great example of such a game, only to be hacked down because everyone is so fucking up tight. It’s not fully immersive yet, but one of these days it will.

I’m tired of this type of shit. I remember the aftermath of the Virginia shootings, CNN and Fox kept on bringing up the fact that the guy “might” have played video games. Then they would go on and an about all the studies “proving” violent video games are linked to violence. When I was a child, I played video games all the time. I played all sorts of games that let me kill people, beat people up, etc. Today, I’ve got to be the most laid-back person ever. I would never in my life dream of hurting someone just for kicks. Since I played all these violent video games, one would think I would be just as violent today.

The main correlation I’ve never understood, like you mentioned above, is violent video games are always frowned upon; however, a violent movie is always accepted. And what really cracks me up is parents will bitch about Harry Potter but they will let their kids watch Hostel. Kids are violent becuase their parents allow them to be violent. When parents lose control over their children, then all Hell will break loose.
