Tipping

Servers pushing to make twenty-percent tipping legally mandatory in U.S. restaurants.

Seroiusly, mandatory tipping? How about mandatory excellent service. Not everyone deserves a 15% TIP. It’s complimentary for a job well done. Now I know there’s people out there that have worked waiting jobs, but honestly, do you really expect to make something for treating a customer like shit? I’m sure you wouldn’t pay me if I shipped you a product that was poorly written, missing half the features promised and crashed every 5 minutes. Why should I have to pay 20% extra for a server who isn’t going to give a damn about any service? I’m sorry that most states pay their wait staff less than $2.50/hr without tips, but tips are an incentive to do a great job serving the customer. There’s always assholes who leave almost nothing, but when the tips are good, you could be making well over $10/hr easy. Also, no one said you had to be a waiter/waitress, that’s your own choice. I chose not to work in food service, not because I think highly of myself, but because I knew I couldn’t cut it and I definately couldn’t serve anyone in a timely manner.

I say, if we add mandatory tips, we should get 10% more food on the plate, and get excellent service everytime we go out to eat. And those fuckers better not spit on my food.

I think we should get rid of tipping as a whole. It seems as though we have to tip for everything if we expect good service. Why do I have to tip the waitress at a restaurant? Isn’t your job TO SERVE ME FOOD? Instead of bitching about mandatory tips, how about pushing for legislation that will allow you to make more than minimum wage?! I am not one who likes to leave a big tip, even if the service is good. Your job is to serve me and I’m not going to pay extra for it. Why do we have to tip when we get our hair cut? Why do we tip when get our car washed? Why do we tip when we get a limo? Why do we tip the person who cuts our grass? Why do we tip the bagger to take our groceries out to our car? It seems like everything is requiring a tip. I think we should eliminate all tipping and make it purely voluntary!

Well, a tip is just that, voluntary. Just look up gratuity and it’s the same thing. You don’t have to tip anyone, it’s just society as a whole makes you feel bad when you don’t tip. I still tip pretty well for good service because I know how hard it is for them to live off just their wages. But so far no one’s done anything about it, but if they try to move to mandatory tipping, I’ll never eat out again.
