Surfing

I happened to be channel surfing and ran across SpikeTV’s RealTV. They were showing some shots of surfers and a voice over that went like this, “Surfers go out there everyday risking their lives and golfers go out and hit a little white ball and get paid millions.” This ignorant surfer was pretty much saying that anyone and their mom could hit a golf ball while no one can surf. Also saying that surfers are a repressed sporting community. Neither is true. Both surfing and golf require very high skills, but I think golf is probably harder to grasp. The accuracy that you must swing and hit the ball with to get those low scores is pretty tough. Golf is just a more marketable sport due to one very simple thing. Location. You can be anywhere and have a golf course so there’s going to be people that play it whereever you happen to be. While surfing requires you be to near a body of water, perferably a body of water with enough waves to surf. Surfers get paid millions as well, you just have to be way more skillful because there’s not as many sponsors willing to dish out high pay checks per tournament. That was simply the more ignorant statement I’ve ever heard from a professional surfer.
